Thanks to the home hospice option, children with life threatening illnesses can stay at home, surrounded by their loved ones. The home hospice for children of Lodz began working in 2005. Its goal is to provide comprehensive medical,  psychological, and emotional support for chronically and terminally ill children and their families.  We want to significantly improve the patient’s quality of life, and be a source of hope and support in the toughest moments.

Our home hospice team is mobile and treats our youngest patients that stay at home. In the stationary hospice, we have a team  composed of doctors,  nurses, a psychologist, a social worker, a physiotherapist, and a chaplain. We also have several volunteers that work with us. Hospice care is free thanks to a contract with the NFZ. To date, we have taken care of over 200 children with severe damage to their central nervous systems, life threatening and incurable genetic conditions, congenital anomalies, and neuromuscular diseases. Around 20% of our patients suffer from cancer.

To run our facility as efficiently as possible, we annually travel over 300 thousand kilometers and are on call for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We want to make sure that we are taking care of the most urgent issues as fast as we can. 

Working in the hospice is both physically and emotionally tough, but above all it is beautiful and rewarding. We feel that the work we do is so important and truly does make a difference. Our work takes courage, skill, and professionalism. Each member of our team consistently performs their best, and they are compassionate and caring in the last moments of someone’s life.
